GI measures how fast food raises blood sugar. GL accounts for portion size: GL = (GI x carbs per serving)/100. Watermelon has high GI (72) but low GL (4) due to high water content. GL is more practical for meal planning.

I focus on GL now. More realistic for actual portions we eat.
